Blog o Gymru : the wonderful coastline of Wales
A few weeks ago, we started to spend a little more time on the ‘o Gymru’ side of ‘Jones’ and reflect on why this means so much to us.
Yes, ‘o Gymru’ means ‘from Wales’ which of course correctly states where we are from, but it means so much more. We are proud to be ‘o Gymru’ and this drives all that we do. When we think of this in terms of our surroundings, we have so much to be thankful for. So, we thought we’d continue on our journey to highlight some of the locations - towns, cities, coastlines and mountains - that we love and believe you will enjoy when you’re here in Wales.
This time we’d like to spend a little time wandering further westwards, around the wonderful coastline of Wales, and pick out a couple of our favourite spots, which we hope you might also enjoy. Once again, this is by no means a comprehensive selection, purely a random sample, a brief snapshot, of what we like in Wales and makes us proud to be ‘o Gymru’.
And whilst we’re at it, we might give you an idea where to find our ‘Jones o Gymru’ products, to help make your visit that extra special!
Now this is a truly magical place! Often referred to as the burial place of 20,000 saints, weather permitting you can catch a day trip to the island from Porth Meudwy near Aberdaron, which is about 16 miles from Pwllheli on the Llyn Peninsula.
A renowned location for spotting wildlife, where you can see choughs, grey seals and puffins in abundance.
There’s even a rare apple variety to be found here, The Bardsey Apple, which can now be bought to grow in your very own orchard! Not so rare, but enjoyable nonetheless are the Jones o Gymru range of crisps and popcorn, which can be found at the Caffi at Ynys Enlli, together with their very warm welcome! Where better to sample a true taste of Wales!
Aberaeron
Whether you are travelling north or south, the picturesque town is a must stop along the way to spend some time mooching around the harbour set against a wonderful backdrop of beautifully painted houses in a variety of colours. Plenty of choices for eating and drinking , with venues such as Y Seler and the Harbourmaster definite stand-outs - and sumptuous accommodation to match at both.
Aberteifi
This is a lovely market town set on the Teifi Estuary and relaxing around the river near the 12th century castle is a particular pleasure There is a wealth of local produce to enjoy here and some lovely independent shops and bars to visit, with Crwst a particular favourite - check out their amazing breakfast pancakes!
Crwst also have a venue at Poppit Sands and yes, you can sample the delights of Jones o Gymru at both locations!
This really is a wonderful base for exploring the amazing beaches nearby, with Poppit Sands on the other side of the estuary. The fabulous National Trust beach at Mwnt (pictured) is just a few miles away, with Tresaith and Llangrannog only a little further away.
And when you've done all that, pop over to Gwbert in the evening, find a quiet place to sit and watch the sunset - there’s truly no finer end to a day. Cardigan Golf Club is along this stretch and if your game is not quite up to scratch - don’t worry, just relax and enjoy the breathtaking views!
